Principal's Message

Dr. Jacob John is the Principal of MD Seminary Higher Secondary School and a distinguished educationist with more than three decades of dedicated service in the field of education and public administration. He is widely respected for his academic excellence, visionary leadership, and deep commitment to value-based education and social development. His career reflects a rare combination of scholarly achievement, administrative expertise, and social responsibility.
Born on 30 May 1971, Dr. Jacob John holds a Doctorate in Political Science from Mahatma Gandhi University, with his research focusing on the sustainability of women empowerment through the Kudumbasree programme in Kerala. He is a University Rank Holder, having secured Second Rank in the M.A. Political Science examination of the University of Kerala. He has also completed postgraduate studies in Sociology, a Bachelor of Education in Social Science, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Institute of Journalism under the Press Club, Thiruvananthapuram. His strong academic foundation has significantly shaped his approach to teaching and leadership.
Dr. Jacob John began his teaching career in 1992 under the Corporate Management of Catholicate and MD Schools, serving as UPSA, HSA, and HSST over a period of two decades. His excellence in teaching and administration led to his appointment as Principal in 2012. He later served the Government of Kerala as the State Programme Coordinator of the National Service Scheme (Higher Secondary Wing), where he played a pivotal role in strengthening student participation in social service and national development. He has held this prestigious position on multiple occasions and currently serves as the Principal of MD Seminary Higher Secondary School, Kottayam.
Throughout his career, Dr. Jacob John has received several prestigious awards and recognitions. He was honoured with the Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysius II Vidyamrutha Award for Best Teacher under Catholicate and MD Schools, and the State Teacher Award from the Government of Kerala. He was also twice awarded the State Best Directorate and Programme Coordinator Award for his outstanding leadership in the National Service Scheme.
As a leader, Dr. Jacob John has initiated and guided numerous large-scale social and educational projects across Kerala. His major contributions include the construction of more than 600 houses for the homeless, the organisation of the Mask Challenge which produced over 12.54 lakh masks for students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and coordinated relief measures during the Kerala floods of 2018 and 2019. He has also introduced livelihood support programmes such as Upajeevanam, organised a Blood Brigade with over 2.5 lakh volunteers, and led statewide anti-drug campaigns and national integration initiatives. His commitment to educational development is further reflected in projects like Akshara Smrudhi for the renovation of primary schools and Anganwadis, the establishment of open libraries across the state, environmental protection and agricultural promotion campaigns, and the Jeevaraksha programme which provided basic life support and first aid training to over 1.3 lakh NSS volunteers. The establishment of Health Corners in more than 1,300 schools has helped create awareness among students about health and well-being.
Dr. Jacob John firmly believes that education is not merely about academic achievement, but about shaping responsible, compassionate, and socially committed citizens. Under his leadership, MD Seminary Higher Secondary School continues to strive for academic excellence while nurturing moral values, discipline, and a strong sense of service to society.
