Associate NCC Officer: Shri Satheesh Thomas John

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has been a strong pillar of character development, discipline, leadership, and youth empowerment at M.D. Seminary Higher Secondary School for nearly two decades. Established in 2006, NCC Company-6 has developed into one of the school's prominent extracurricular units, providing students with opportunities to cultivate discipline, confidence, leadership, patriotism, teamwork, and a spirit of selfless service.

The NCC motto, “Unity and Discipline,” reflects the core values of the organization. The unit aims to develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, sportsmanship, and ideals of selfless service among young people. It also seeks to create a well-organized, trained, and motivated human resource capable of providing leadership in different spheres of life and contributing meaningfully to the service of the nation. Another important objective is to motivate suitable young people to consider careers in the Armed Forces.

Since its inception, the company has been under the dedicated guidance of Associate NCC Officer Shri Satheesh Thomas John. With a strength of approximately 160 cadets, the unit has established a strong tradition of disciplined training and active participation. It also takes pride in its long-standing association with the 16 Kerala Battalion NCC, with an uninterrupted legacy at the school since 2006.

Training and Development

NCC training at M.D. Seminary Higher Secondary School extends beyond physical fitness and parade practice. Cadets receive systematic training in drill, map reading, basic weapon handling, fieldcraft, civil defence, first aid, disaster preparedness, leadership, and community service. Regular training programmes help students develop endurance, confidence, discipline, decision-making skills, and the ability to work effectively as a team.

The unit provides opportunities for talented cadets to participate in various camps and selection programmes at the state and national levels. Cadets have distinguished themselves through participation in prestigious events such as the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi and Thal Sainik Camps (TSC), where participants are assessed through demanding physical, mental, and skill-based activities.

Contribution to the Kottayam District

While the unit continues to aspire towards state and national-level achievements, it remains deeply connected to the local community. Since 2008, NCC cadets of the school have been regular participants in the Independence Day and Republic Day parades organized by the district authorities in Kottayam.

A notable achievement came in the Republic Day Parade 2025, when NCC Coy-6 of M.D. Seminary Higher Secondary School secured first position in the competition held at the Police Parade Ground, Kottayam. The achievement reflected the cadets' exceptional discipline, coordination, dedication, and commitment. Their success was the outcome of months of rigorous early-morning training under the guidance of the Associate NCC Officer and military trainers.

Educational and Career Opportunities

Participation in NCC also provides students with valuable opportunities for higher education and career development. NCC certificates can offer benefits under applicable NCC quotas, weightage provisions, and recruitment schemes, subject to the rules and eligibility criteria prescribed by the concerned authorities.

Cadets are provided with uniforms and essential training equipment as per the provisions of the NCC. Washing allowances are provided to support uniform maintenance, and refreshment allowances are provided for eligible regular parade activities. During authorized camps such as Annual Training Camps (ATC), Thal Sainik Camps (TSC), and Republic Day Camps, eligible cadets receive provisions relating to food, accommodation, travel, and allowances in accordance with NCC regulations.

NCC certificates can also provide advantages in certain higher-education admissions and recruitment processes. For students aspiring to join the Armed Forces, the NCC 'C' Certificate can provide access to special entry schemes and recruitment opportunities subject to prevailing regulations.

Academic and Career Achievements

The achievements of NCC cadets demonstrate that disciplined extracurricular engagement can complement academic excellence. During 2025, two outstanding cadets secured admission to medical programmes, reflecting their ability to balance academic commitments with the demands of NCC training. In the current academic year, another cadet successfully secured admission to an engineering programme, demonstrating the positive impact of discipline, determination, and sustained effort.

Alumni and Mentorship

The bonds developed through NCC continue long after students leave the school. The unit maintains a strong connection with its former cadets, many of whom have progressed into diverse professional fields. The alumni community includes officers in the Indian Army, IT professionals, academics, professors, and motivational speakers.

During district parade appearances and other occasions, former cadets return to the school and interact with present students, sharing their experiences, challenges, and achievements. Their continued association serves as a source of inspiration and demonstrates how the values of discipline, leadership, time management, teamwork, and perseverance acquired through NCC can contribute to success in higher education, careers, and life.

Through its sustained commitment to training, discipline, service, and leadership, NCC Company-6 of M.D. Seminary Higher Secondary School continues to empower young people to face challenges with confidence, serve society with dedication, and contribute meaningfully to the nation.
